About the Opportunity…

The Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS), funded by the Department of Social Services, is an early intervention and prevention support service for children aged 0-18 years and their families who are at risk of, or experiencing, issues relating to mental health. Participants can access FMHSS via self-referral, through schools and other community support agencies, or at the suggestion of family or friends. Our services are entirely free, flexible, and adaptive to the needs of the family. We provide support in schools, in our offices, or via Telehealth, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all.

We cater to all communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, migrant, refugee, asylum seeker backgrounds, and people with disabilities.

As a Senior Support Worker in this space, your role is to ensure the effective delivery of quality services, and program outcomes through:

  • Delivering personalised one-on-one support to children and young people. This involves creating a safe space for clients to share, explore, and learn about their mental health challenges and strategies to reduce risks.
  • Providing education and strategies to parents, equipping them with the tools and understanding to support their child's mental health journey effectively.
  • Facilitating tailored group programs focused on addressing a range of various mental health-related topics, such as self-esteem, confidence, anger management, and social skills.
  • Undertaking basic assessments, providing information and managing sensitive enquiries.
  • Developing and implementing Family Action Plans.
  • Connecting individuals with additional support services as needed.

This wonderful opportunity is available immediately and is open to candidates with a range of experience. You may be someone who is passionate about this space looking for a team to build your long term career; you may want to take some time out from delivering complex and challenging essential services; have lived/living experience of disability or mental health that you’d like to turn into a career, or perhaps you are looking to switch into a program that really puts people at the heart.

Whatever your situation, we are looking for reliable people who are passionate about community connection, who enjoy developing relationships with families and young people, and genuinely get excited to see outcomes met and individuals achieve their goals.

The pay range on this role is between $65K-$72K + Super + Benefits.    Relevant certificates or qualifications with at least 12 months experience, attract the higher range.

With a knowledgeable senior leadership team to guide you, along with a thorough induction and orientation, you will be supported to deliver amazing services to the community and develop your skills and career!
